Mario Kart Wii Video Game Review (Nintendo Wii)

The Mario Kart Wii/ Wii Wheel Cover

The latest edition of Mario Kart has arrived for the Nintendo Wii titled “Mario Kart Wii”. There are a few additions and a few disappointments to this newest outing.

There are now multiple control schemes to make use of the Wii-Mote/Wii Wheel combo, the Wii-Mote/Nunchuk combo, the Classic Controller and the Gamecube controller. Each controller has it’s advantages and makes for a unique play experience.

The Wii wheel which is included with the game is a molded plastic shell that you insert you Wii-Mote control into. The design is fairly simple and doesn’t really ad much for functionality but I was surprised at how much more fun the game was to play. Nintendo tweaked the power sliding speed boosts to work better with the Wii wheel as well as adding a stunt system that rewards you with speed boosts. The new system seems fair and more balanced for all control combinations.

Curtains for HD DVD?

January 11th, 2008 DarkManX Posted in Technology | 2 Comments »

HD DVD LogoThe high def video disc format has been brewing since about 2002, in one corner was Sony’s Blu-Ray disc and in the other was the HD DVD chaired by Toshiba. It all started from the same idea using blue lasers, but the main difference was in the platform on which they used. The HD DVD camp wanted to use Microsoft’s iHD system, while Blu Ray used a java based alternative.

Early in 2006, the first HD DVD player was released, and a few months later the first consumer Blu-Ray player was on the market. From a technological point of view, the Blu-Ray was slightly superior: larger capacity discs, faster data transfer, higher quality audio. However the HD DVD camp also had a few things going for it, it was region free, mandatory backward compatibility with DVD’s and CD’s, and generally cheaper.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - What’s With The Adverts?

October 29th, 2007 DarkManX Posted in Gaming | 3 Comments »

Pro Evo DVD CaseI recently , forked out just under £50 for PS3 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. After spending most part of the last year on the PS2 version, i thought this would be an excellent game for a slightly higher price, but i thought it would be worth it on a next gen system.

However after playing the game for the first time, i was shocked and annoyed at the amount of advertisement in the game. Now im not just talking about the adverts of the side of the pitch, i think that adds to the realism of the game and is generally a good thing. However the menu system is plagued by adverts from companies such as MySpace, Play.com. IGN.com and Zoo Magazine. How much money does Konami need to make?

F1: Raikkonen - The New World Champion. Hamilton - Maybe Next Year

So there it is… the dream for the young Englishman comes to an end. As does pretty much every other sport for England over the past week. Whether it be the spanking against the Russians in Football, or the slow death at the hands of South Africa at the Rugby.

A lot of people thought it was in the bag for Lewis, coming into this weekend, it was possible for him to win the championship without even finishing (and the unlikely event that both Alonso & Raikkonen had bad races too). But starting from second, it seemed the Championship was all but won,

As soon as the race started, Massa shot Hamilton down from his pedestal and reminded him that there was still a race to be won. Alonso didn’t help matters either. not that Im blaming him, he was still in with a chance of winning too. Was it Hamilton’s inexperience that caused him to veer off the track at the start, or was he just waking up.

Lamb with seven legs born in New Zealand

Seven legged lamb born in New Zealand

We’ve reported on some strange stuff here at Newsgab. We’ve had Moose and Horse Hybrids and kittens with two faces.

This week we bring you a lamb, born in New Zealand with seven legs!

This poor freak of nature isn’t the result of scientists attempts to win over the leg of lamb or lamb chop market, its a misprint in embryo formation which has resulted in the lamb being born polydactyl, with many legs, a condition that occurs once in several million sheep!

Farmer Dave Callaghan found the lamb in his field. Two of its legs hung useless behind the forelegs. The lamb walked using its two forelegs and three healthy hind legs.

Veterinarian Steve Williams said the lamb was also hermaphrodite, and was missing a part of its bowel so was unable to pass faeces.

Jodie Sweetin low cut top

Jodie Sweetin, who starred on TV’s Full House” for eight seasons, is a new bride according to Celebrity Website Celebtv.com

Sizzling Sweetin, 25, exchanged vows with Cody Herpin, 30, last Saturday at the Little Church of the West, a Las Vegas Strip wedding chapel, CelebTV.com said, citing a marriage certificate from the Clark County recorder’s office.

Sweetin played middle daughter Stephanie Tanner on “Full House.”

This was the second trip down the aisle for Sweetin, who split from Los Angeles police officer Shaun Holguin in 2006 after four years of marriage.

Onscreen older sister Candace Cameron served as maid of honor for her first set of nuptials.

In an interview on Good Morning America in February 2006, Sweetin talked about her two-year battle with a methamphetamine addiction, which eventually resulted in an intervention attended by TV dad Bob Saget, John Stamos and the Olsen twins, followed by a six-week stay at Promises in Malibu for an intensive treatment program.

When visitation rights go wrong

July 18th, 2007 Head_Monkey Posted in Animal Kingdom, Current Events, Odd News | 1 Comment »

“So where are we going today Dad?” asks a curious 10 year old boy while visiting is father. “We’re running with the bulls today son…” Yes that’s right, a father has taken his 10 year old son to run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Needless to say, the mother was not impressed, and sought to have the father’s visitation rights removed to protect the child’s “well being” and to teach him a lesson about raising a child. And after contacting the local authorities, a judge was more than happy to grant the mother her request. And what a surprise the father must have had when the police came around to remove the boy from his custody.

But how did the mother find out about all this??? A local paper had run a story on the annual running of the bulls, complete with photos of the event. That’s right, one of the photos contained a bull.. complete with running father and his son.

Ok so its about that time of the year where the coming years best games are showcased for all the world to see, and although this year it won’t be open to the public, i’m sure they’ll be enough pics, vids and stories on the net, to satisfy even the most avid gamer.

So what shall we expect to see this year, ill breakdown the best games from each of the platforms to wet your appetite that little bit more.

Unreal Tournament 3
The next installment of one of the most successful franchises to hit the PC over the last decade. UT3 uses a totally new engine, has new game modes and new vehicles. Apparently this game is said to make Gear of war look ugly despite using the same engine. I, for one will be eagerly awaiting any new snippets of info regarding this game.

Dell says let there be light err colour!

July 11th, 2007 Head_Monkey Posted in Cool, Gadgets, Technology | 1 Comment »

Which is more powerful: A computer in a traditional beige case, or a computer in a “ruby red” case? Well according to Dell, a “trendy” coloured computer is more powerful. Dell has released a new range of Inspiron notebooks for the colour conscious individual. So what’s so special about these notebooks compared to their normal line of notebooks? I compared the Inspiron 1520 coloured notebook with the equivalent “colourless” model, and the specs were identical. The only difference I found was the colour. And what a colour palette to choose from:

  • Jet Black
  • Alpine White
  • Espresso Brown
  • Ruby Red
  • Mindnight Blue
  • Spring Green
  • Flamingo Pink
  • Sunshine Yellow

PlayStation Eye Is No Toy

April 27th, 2007 hippie pieces Posted in Gaming | No Comments »

PlayStation Eye QBert

Sony of America announced their playstation camera will be arriving this summer for the PlayStation 3. Formally known as the Eye Toy the device will now simply be known as the PlayStation Eye.

It will feature better frame rate and resolution, improved zooming, a noise reducing microphone and will be bundled with EyeCreate software.

The software will allow you to capture audio and video to the PS3’s hard drive as well as add visual effects to photos. Sony claims that the EyeCreate software “can turn your media into professional looking movies.”

The camera is optimized for low light conditions. It will include optional resolutions of 640 x 480 at 60 frames a second or 320 x 240 at 120 frames a second.

Hopefully Sony makes better use of their new toy better than their SIXAXIS tilt motion features on their rumble-less PS3 controller.
