LG launch 71 inch Plasma TV in gold - 102 inch Plasma from Panasonic on the way
The super-sized plasma war is hotting again up as LG launch it’s latest gigantic telly.
The widescreen wonder beats every other plasma in size…Measuring an eye-spanking 71-inches, the MY-71PY10 can be yours in one of two finishes, either slick black or if your feeling really flush, in genuine gold.
Yes…gold! as in a whopping 4 pounds of the shiny stuff.
Seriously stunning, it’s the world’s largest commercially available plasma, pumping out full Hi-Definition pictures and packing the latest HDMI connectors. (Click thumbs for larger images)
LG’s XD Engine also means standard-definition pictures look super sharp, while the included 600W speaker system means surround sound will be more than capable of making your ears bleed.
As well as all its TV/DVD/Video playback options, the gargantuan goggle-box will also swallow photos and MP3s, although it’ll set you back a pretty penny. Pricing is available “on request” but is expected to be around the £50k mark!
If you find 72inches a little on the small size and have a little more then the £50k (Approx $85k US) to burn, then why not wait a few more months for the latest offering due from Panasonic
Panasonic’s 103in plasma will be going on sale in the UK from mid-November.
It measures 2.3m by 1.3m (as a comparison, the plasma on the right in the picture below is a mear 50in), weighs 215kg and can produce full 1080i HD resolution.
On the down side, it’s also rumoured to take 45 minutes to warm up although I’m sure once this baby is running at full power you’ll save on your heating bills!

Panasonic unveiledMeir the monster at the CES show in January this year, much to the annoyance of LG who had only recently pulled the cover off their 102in screen (what’s in an inch eh?)
Once launched the Panasonic model will beat their 71in MW-71PY10 as the largest production plasma in the world, I’m sure it won’t be to long before LG steps back into the game. Or hey, why not just wait for the latest 16 megapixel offering from Cinevision.
It might be time to start working on that shopping list for Santa.
