F1: Raikkonen – The New World Champion. Hamilton – Maybe Next Year

So there it is… the dream for the young Englishman comes to an end. As does pretty much every other sport for England over the past week. Whether it be the spanking against the Russians in Football, or the slow death at the hands of South Africa at the Rugby.

A lot of people thought it was in the bag for Lewis, coming into this weekend, it was possible for him to win the championship without even finishing (and the unlikely event that both Alonso & Raikkonen had bad races too). But starting from second, it seemed the Championship was all but won,

As soon as the race started, Massa shot Hamilton down from his pedestal and reminded him that there was still a race to be won. Alonso didn’t help matters either. not that Im blaming him, he was still in with a chance of winning too. Was it Hamilton’s inexperience that caused him to veer off the track at the start, or was he just waking up.

Then bad turned to worse for Hamilton as his engine gave up and he seemed to be in neutral for about 30 seconds, and he dropped down to 18th. Despite the McLaren strategists doing their best with 3 stops and a seemingly impressive tyre choice. Hamilton could only muster 7th.

Raikkonen on the other hand had a strong race from start to finish without a care in the world. Everyone knew Massa would give him way, as he rightly should’ve, but from Raikkonen’s seat it was pretty easy going.

I personally think Hamilton lost it China, and the McLaren engineers should have pulled him into the pits quite a few laps earlier. And maybe because of that, they don’t deserve to win.

However Raikkonen did win, and I think he deserved too. The start of the season was quite bad for him, but in the end, he was a better driver this year, albeit a slight boring one. This makes next year all the more interesting.

Contragulations Kimi
