Default Boxing integrity damaged - Khan

    By Richard Conway
BBC Sport Khan has refused to apologise to "mystery man" Ameen Amir Khan believes the integrity of boxing has been damaged as a result of the controversy surrounding his defeat by Lamont Peterson.

The 25-year-old from Bolton is awaiting the result of Peterson's appeal against the WBA's decision to order a rematch.

"A lot of young fighters from England want to go to America," Khan told BBC Sport.

"If they get cheated the way I got cheated, they are going to think twice about going to America.

I don't think Mustafa Ameen deserves an apology. It could have been anyone sat there. He was not accredited to be sat there. He shouldn't have been there
    Amir Khan
"So it has been damaged in that way but we just want justice. We want fair fights."

Khan conceded the IBF title to the American after withdrawing his appeal over the result but he is still contesting the judgement with the WBA.

"Mystery man" Mustafa Ameen was at the centre of the controversy after he appeared to interfere with the scoring by WBA supervisor Michael Welsh during the fight.

But Ameen told BBC Sport in an exclusive interview that he was correcting errors made by Welsh, who had said he was unwell.

Khan refused to believe Ameen's version of events, adding: "I don't accept that. How much help do you need? Counting scorecards.

"Mystery man" Mustafa Ameen demands Khan apology

"Michael Welsh is a chartered accountant. I mean he's not going to find it hard, even if he is ill, to count numbers.

"We don't know the whole story because Michael Welsh was not at the hearing.

"That was the reason we didn't go because it would have been a one-sided story.

"But hopefully in the next week or so we should find out exactly what's going to happen.

"We want them [the WBA and Welsh] to come out and clear this up because this story is getting a little boring now.

"We just want to know the truth and if they don't come out then I'm just going to move on."

Ameen has demanded an apology from Khan, but he responded: "I don't think he deserves an apology. It could have been anyone sat there. He was not accredited to be sat there. He shouldn't have been there."

In a written appeal by the Peterson camp, they asked the WBA to "recognise Lamont Peterson as the true and final WBA light-welterweight world champion."

However, Khan will not do that saying: "I don't think he beat me fair and square. If he thinks he's the true champion he'd fight me again and beat me fair and square.

"But I really felt I was robbed in that fight and I should have won that fight.

"For [Peterson] to appeal against the rematch, it seems he doesn't want it and he's not confident because he doesn't think he'll win the next fight."

I didn't realize that boxing even had any integrity. I can't even tell you the names of any current "star" boxers. you don't see any bouts on TV any more.

cage fighting totally dominates the news and interests of anyone into any kind of fighting these days.
