Cartoon Alien Terror Scare In Boston

February 1st, 2007 hippie pieces Posted in Movies, Odd News, TV No Comments »

Alien Threat

The city of Boston was in a panic earlier today when several electronic devices were found near high traffic areas, bridges and even a subway. Bridges and roads were shut down and the subway service was temporarily suspended. Bomb squads were sent in before the police discovered the devices were apparently harmless.

The devices were simple magnetic lights that were being used as promotional material for the Cartoon Network’s “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” movie. The devices feature characters called the “Mooninites”. The characters, which closely resemble 1970s Atari style graphics, are portrayed on the sign giving the finger.

Turner Broadcasting
who own the Cartoon Network issued an apology to the city of Boston. Turner chairman Phil Kent stated “We apologize to the citizens of Boston that part of a marketing campaign was mistaken for a public danger. We appreciate the gravity of this situation and, like any responsible company would, are putting all necessary resources toward understanding the facts surrounding it as quickly as possible.”

Filmmaker Peter Jackson to make Xbox games

September 29th, 2006 Chief Posted in Gaming, Movies No Comments »

New Zealand filmmaker, Peter Jackson and screenwriter wife, Fran Walsh announced at the X06 convention, Wednesday, that they are teaming up with Microsoft to create Xbox and Xbox 360 games with their new company, Wingnut Interactive.

Wingnut Interactive will initially create another video game based on sci-fi series Halo with help from Microsoft and Bungie Studios, but staffed locally in Wellington. His second project can be whatever he likes, while trying to bring new people into the world of gaming.

Peter Jackson spoke to New Zealand news broadcaster, 3 News and said: “I want to able to experiment with ways of telling stories that’s not using the structure of a movie. It’s immersive and interactive, but it goes beyond (today’s) games. It’s what we’ve been looking forward to for 10 years. I’m sure it will start small and if things go well it will expand to fit whatever this turns into.”

Crowe Denies He Will Play Crocodile Man.

September 26th, 2006 katkat Posted in Celebrity News, Movies No Comments »

Actor Russell Crowe has denied reports he is to portray the recently deceased Australian naturalist Steve Irwin in a film.

The Gladiator star said the idea was “appalling” and offended him “very deeply”.

He said it was “so awful that I have to deal with millions of people thinking I would dance on my friend’s grave.”

The 42-year-old who made a recorded tribute at Irwin’s memorial service last week has been in New York promoting his latest film, A Good Year.

Mr Irwin, 44, died after being struck in the chest by the stingray’s barb whilst filming on the Great Barrier Reef earlier this month.

In a separate interview, Crowe said he would no longer be starring with Nicole Kidman in a historical epic set in the Australian outback.

Mel Gibson returns to the limelight promoting new movie Apocalypto

September 25th, 2006 katkat Posted in Celebrity News, Movies No Comments »

Mel Gibson has returned to the limelight to promote his new movie “Apocalypto,” and to criticise the war in Iraq, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Last Friday he made an unscheduled appearance at Fantastic Fest, an event in Austin, Texas, which promotes new science fiction, horror and fantasy films.

He presented a work in progress screening of his Mayan adventure tale, and then answered questions, before a third of the audience gave him a standing ovation.

“The precursors to a civilisation that’s going under are the same, time and time again,” said Gibson equating the film’s theme of the
Mayan civilisation on the brink of collapse and America’s present situation. “What’s human sacrifice,” he asked, “if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason?”

Harry Potter - Daniel Radcliff in a scene from the nee Harry Potter film due for release next Summer

Harry Potter fans have been given a sneak peak of the latest Harry Potter film with the release of the first stills from Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film in the series based on JK Rowling’s books

In one image (click thumbnail for full version), Harry, is seen crouching in an grimy alleyway as he attempts to defend himself from an attack by the Dementors.

Harry, played by 17-year-old Daniel Radcliffe, is a year older and has a new look, complete with a more trendy spiky, short-cropped haircut.

The images (I say imageS because apparently there are five in total) are the first officially sanctioned stills from the film, which is set for release next July.

Their release comes just weeks after Warner Brothers executives fought to remove grainy home video from the internet showing Radcliffe and his co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson filming a scene at King’s Cross station in London.

Salman Khan Says he Is A victim Of Character Assassination

Khan says Bollywood is defaming his character, by their constant portrayal of a negative image in the media.

He accused the Mombai business community of portraying a bad guy so that they can sell magazines or TV programmes.

The actor was charged with the unlawful shooting of two protected species of antelope in 1998. Later he was given a five year jail term for a seperate hunting incident. This second sentence the jail term is at present under appeal. The 41 year old is currently out on bail whilst his appeal is being heard.

Salman has denied these wrongdoings, saying his conviction was wrong and the judge sentenced him only because he wanted to make an example out of him.
‘Apparently the judge said that openly,’ Khan said.
