A suspected US missile strike has targeted Taleban militants in north-western Pakistan, according to local security officials. AFP news agency reports three people have died in the attack in the tribal region of South Waziristan, close to the Afghan border.

The area is said to be the base of top Pakistani militant Baitullah Mehsud.

The US has not confirmed the strike. It has been blamed for a number of attacks along Pakistan's border areas recently.
