Great thread idea!

Difficult to say though.

I think I personally would go with John Lennon. You know he spoke out a lot against things he really didn't agree with - most obviously the Vietnam war in a time where celebs were not supposed to speak out against such things. Just 20 years previous stars would be blacklisted for their politics if considered too radical.

Today the way governments court such celebs instead can be a bit sickening - I mean Bono is treated like the second coming.

And yeah some punk stars like Johnny Rotten could perhaps be called controversial, but thats all part of the punk brand isn't it?

No John Lennon was controversial, but genuine.

I will only narrow it down to one group: The Attention Whores: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian (though at least she can be hot), or any like them. The people who throw themselves in front of the camera to get pictures taken and put their whole life on display when no one wants to care about them and then when they are getting photographed they smile and pose one minute usually with some private body part exposed and then try to cover up their face or whatever they are exposing like it was an accident so they can lie about it the next day saying it wasn't intentional. I mean how controversial can you get when you want to show off your whole life but then turn around and say you want your privacy and bash everyone that made you famous for not respecting that wish.

but if that isn't good enough for you guys then I also agree with John Lennon.

I'd have to go along with WhiteCrow, kind of....I'd say Yoko Ono, she did all the stuff Lennon did, but she broke up the Beatles!!!!

Well, if you're going with Presidents, then:

Abraham Lincoln freeing the slaves

Woodrow Wilson getting us into WW1

Truman and two Atomic bombs

JFK and LBJ Civil Rights

Bill and Monica Lewinsky

GWB and the war in Iraq

Obama and the Bailout

Andrew Clay, though no longer very relevant, was very controversial for his time and seemed to help usher in a lot of "political correctness."
