You have to have Directv (as far as I know) to watch this season right now, but it is 3 episodes into Season 4. The show is reinventing itself, with Coach Taylor moved to East Dillon high school across town to start a football team. He has 18 players--mostly inner-city types, which is an (ironic) side of Dillon we haven't seen before. Coach Taylor has to work to earn the respect of his team--which he completely loses after forfeiting the first game in episode 1. Most of the original characters have moved on, and imo, they aren't doing enough to develop new ones. Still, it is a good show, but I doubt someone who hasn't seen the previous seasons would watch it for long.

NEW YORK (AP) - CNN's Lou Dobbs, a lightning rod for criticism following his transition from a business journalist to an opinionated anchor on such issues as illegal immigration, told viewers on Wednesday that he was quitting his nightly show to pursue new opportunities.

"This will be my last broadcast," Dobbs said after giving the day's headlines. Dobbs, who hosts a daily radio show unrelated to CNN, said the network had allowed him to be released early from his contract.

Dobbs was a CNN original, signing on when the cable network started in 1980. For much of that time, he hosted a nightly business broadcast that became one of the most influential shows in the corporate world, and CNN's most profitable show for advertising revenue.

But Dobbs said his world view changed after the 2001 terrorist attacks and corporate corruption scandals, and he began to more freely express his opinions. He was particularly persistent in bringing the immigration issue to the fore, winning him both higher ratings and enemies. Latino groups had an active petition drive seeking his removal.

His presence became awkward for CNN, particularly as it began emphasizing reporting and non-opinion shows. He angered management this summer by pressing questions about President Barack Obama's birth site after CNN reporters determined there was no issue.

Dobbs said the decision came after months of discussion with CNN U.S. President Jon Klein. Dobbs said he wanted to concentrate on his role as a commentator and on advocacy journalism.

Klein hailed Dobbs'"appetite for big ideas, the megawatt smile and larger-than-life presence he brought to our newsroom."

"With characteristic forthrightness, Lou has now decided to carry the banner of advocacy journalism elsewhere," Klein said. "We respect his decision."

Dobbs said he was proud of his role in helping to build the first cable news network. He said some leaders in media, politics and business "have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem-solving."

Seated at an anchor desk in front of a screen with a fluttering American flag, Dobbs mentioned his interest in issues such as health care, jobs, immigration, climate change and the wars.

"Unfortunately, these issues are now defined in the public arena by partisanship and ideology rather than rigorous empirical thought and forthright analysis and discussion," he said. "I will be working diligently to change that as best I can."

His resignation was hailed by activists who were seeking his ouster.

"Our contention all along was that Lou Dobbs - who has a long history of spreading lies and conspiracy theories about immigrants and Latinos - does not belong on the most trusted name in news," said Roberto Lovato, co-founder of Presente.org. "We are thrilled that Dobbs no longer has the legitimate platform from which to incite fear and hate."

Tom Saenz, president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the leading Latino legal organization, said, "The Latino community can and should celebrate that Lou Dobbs is no longer on CNN."

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, a Democrat from Dobbs' home state of New Jersey and the Senate's only Hispanic member, called it "addition by subtraction" for CNN.

Dobbs did not immediately return telephone and e-mail messages to talk about his critics.

Although he joined CNN in 1980, Dobbs left the network for two years in 1999, after angrily complaining on the air about a decision by then-CNN President Rick Kaplan to switch away from his show to a live news event. An Internet venture failed and when Kaplan left CNN, Dobbs returned.

Dobbs' ratings had cooled from the height of the immigration discussion. But his 879,000 viewers on Tuesday still eclipsed MSNBC's Chris Matthews (Fox News Channel's Shepard Smith had more than double the audience) and even beat Campbell Brown's CNN show, which followed Dobbs at 8 p.m. ET in prime-time, according to the Nielsen Co.

A decision on who will replace Dobbs is expected to be announced Thursday.

I watched a program last Monday Night.
It was an excellent episode of this particular program.
The Show is "Castle".
The Episode was titled "Famous Last Words".
The main character's daughter confided in her father that she red online that her favorite singer died.
He later finds out that his daughter's favorite singer was murderd.
He later told his daughter that once our favorite artist die we feel like we lose someone close to us.
I flet this way about an actress who died, I cried when I heard about her death so I can identify with Castle's Daughter.
After the show I wached a tribute to that verry actress on youtube, and started crying.
This was the best episode of any crime drama I've seen.
Anybody else who wached (or watches) this show tell me what you think.

RIP Thuy Trang
I'll never forget you!

A Leno letdown

Six weeks after Jay Leno moved to primetime, NBC's wait-and-see approach to his sinking ratings is testing the patience of affiliate stations across...

Six weeks after Jay Leno moved to primetime, NBC's wait-and-see approach to his sinking ratings is testing the patience of affiliate stations across the country.

The Peacock network maintains that putting Leno on five nights a week will pay off when fresh episodes of his show go up against reruns on other networks, but so far Leno has been a disappointing lead-in for the late newscasts that follow him.

After a strong start, his program at 10 p.m. is down sharply from its premiere week and is drawing one-quarter fewer viewers than its scripted predecessors a year ago. This is having a ripple effect on the local newscast and late night.

Ratings for late newscasts at NBC affiliates in 44 of the top 56 metered markets are down this year, falling an average of 13 percent in the first four weeks of the season compared with a year ago. In 10 of the top 25 major markets, the numbers are worse, with New York down 22 percent, Philadelphia off 37 percent and Miami down 30 percent.

NBC argues there could more factors at work than Leno and points out that some stations, such as Detroit, are up this season. Still, ratings for NBC affiliates are down more than those of its competitors. ABC affiliates' newscasts are down 10 percent, while CBS' are up 8 percent.

"We believe in the combination of a bankable star like Jay Leno hosting an exciting, topical show five nights a week and are committed to continuing to engage with our affiliates in ways to make that relationship work," an NBC spokesman said.

NBC says Leno is a long-term strategy that will play out over 52 weeks, and that most affiliates appear to be on board.

"Some of the significant dramas right now are going to run out of steam by December and be out until February," said DJ Wilson, general manager at KGW in Portland, Ore. "There is a real opportunity for Leno to pop. We really agree that this is a marathon, not a sprint."

However, there are signs of growing discontent, with some station managers becoming more vocal about their dissatisfaction. One manager said the clock is ticking and he gives Leno until next year to show improvement.

"I give them through February," said the manager, who asked to remain unnamed for fear of reprisal. "I don't think anybody is anxious to pull any triggers. Plan B is to give the 10 p.m. hour back to the affiliates."

The Peacock has been languishing in fourth place for a while, and it's been years since it had a strong scripted lead-in at 10 p.m. In that time, affiliates have grown accustomed to doing the heavy lifting.

With Leno, NBC is easing the pain of lower ratings by giving affiliates additional commercial time to sell.

"The network reformed the programs so we get an extra bit of commercial inventory," said Steve Baboulis, general manager of WNYT-TV in Albany. "The reality is our revenue in the 10 o'clock time period is up year-to-year. The difference is better inventory." holly.sanders@nypost.com
