Capcom will release their fourth game in the Street Fighter franchise, Street Fighter IV, in February, just in time to hopefully push more people to go see Capcom's 2nd attempt at a live action movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. Does anyone else feel the same as I do in that they should have quit way back in the day with Street Fighter 2? I mean the Marvel Vs. Capcom games were fun for a while but who on earth thought it was a good idea to make a new Street Fighter? It's just another way for Capcom to capitalize on a franchise they've used and abused.
I saw some of the screenshots and a few videos featuring gameplay and I'm not at all impressed. Why would I spend 60 bucks on a game that's ugly and over the hill, when I could spend 30 or 40 for a beautiful fighting game featuring a Sith Lord? (Soul Calibur IV). I do have to say that Resident Evil 5, another upcoming Capcom game, does look promising, but it didn't start out as a 2D fighting game released almost 20 years ago, did it? Maybe it's just me though. What does everyone else think?

Street Fighter 4 looks great! It has cell shaded 3D graphics with 2D style game play.
Capcom tried full 3D Street Fighter games with the Street Fighter Ex series but it didn't really work. In order to build a good 3D fighter it really has to be built that way from the ground up. A few good Capcom Fighters are Rival Schools and Power Stone.
This Street Fighter is a revival of the franchise and will be huge in sales when it's released. 2D style fighters are more relevant now more than ever. Just look at the colossal sales of the last two Super Smash Bros games or Capcom's own Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix available on XBox Live Arcade.
This is one good reason to own an XBox 360 over Nintendo Wii.
I don't know. I mean I'm not saying that it won't get huge sales when it hits the streets. I just think that after playing it for a bit, gamers who had been pumped before its release will be disappointed. You know, they could end up seeing it's basically the same game that was released a couple times before turned '3D'. And I gotta be honest, I think that Capcom could have done a lot better visually. Sure it has 3D graphics, but to what extent? I can't fully judge yet on the actual gameplay until I get my hands on it, so I won't, but I got a feeling it will be very familiar to SF2 fans, which may not be a bad thing.
Now as far as the other 2D style fighters go, I didn't buy Super Smash Brothers because of the 'awesome gameplay' or the beautifully rendered environments. I got it because I could kick the s*** out of the little fairy boy (Link), that yella rat in a ball (Pikachu), and everyone's favorite fat plumber (Mario). It had something that you couldn't get by playing any other game. Same goes for stuff like Mortal Kombat. It threw something else in the cooking pot: Gore. And Midway went ahead and flushed that down the toilet with its last game MK Vs. DCU. I guess that's one reason Capcom went back to its roots but this leads me into my next point.
The other game that you mentioned, Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, hits one of the points I was trying express to begin with. It costs what like 800MP or 10 bucks maybe? Why would I want to pay 60 bucks for a game that is barely 'visually better' over a game I know is badass and its 50 bucks cheaper? For the gamerpoints? If I wanted to boost my gamerscore anymore I'd get one of the Madden games.
Now, I will give you this: SF4 would be great as an arcade game. Even though there probably aren't a whole lotta arcades left around, I think it would bring you back to the place you were in like 15 years ago dropping quarters into the slot and mashing the buttons hoping you pull off a Hadouken.
In my opinion, pre-release mind you, Street Fighter 4 is gonna be a bigger disappointment than The Force Unleashed. Now if it turns out I was wrong and everybody on Earth ends up worshiping the ground Capcom employees walk on then so be it, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. But until then, you know.

I can see what your saying. People will basically be playing the same game they have been playing since the release of the original Street Fighter 2 in 1991.
Since then Capcom has released Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Super Street Fighter 2, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 1,2 and 3, Street Fighter III, Street Fighter III Double impact, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Capcom vs SNK, Capcom vs SNK 2 and most recently in Japan; Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
So are people going to care about another Street Fighter? I'm pretty sure they will. Capcom knows how to milk a franchise.
The only reviews for Street Fighter IV so far are:
Official Xbox Magazine 9.5/10
PlayStation Magazine 5/5
Guess what was released today? So far, its gotten pretty good reviews, but if anyone gets their hands on it before I do, post what you thought about it, if you wouldn't mind posting how it was.

I strongly suspect the low score was to help generate some controversy to promote the fake news site's real review section. Seems pointless to me?
Playstation 3 94%
Based on 37 reviews the PS3 version has the same score as the 360 version.
The lowest metacritic review score seems to be 80% from Wired whose biggest problem seems to be with the button menu control setup. (this is also an XBox version 360 review)
Well my brothers Xbox red ringed (the only Xbox 360 I currently have access to) so I will have to wait a few weeks while it's being fixed before I get the chance to play. I guess I'll just look at videos for now and make believe. It's fun to pretend....

Do you have your 360 standing up or laying down?
I learned from my friends mistakes and they told me to always keep my 360 vertical. They said if you lay it down horizontally that it heats up to much which causes the red rings of death. One of my friends tested it out and left it vertical for 4 days with no problem then put horizontally and 2 hours later he had 2 of the 4 red rings. He then let it cool off, stood it back vertically and has had no other problems.

Yeah the heat distributes poorly horizontally. It has been going a little wonky for the last few weeks. I'm just glad it red ringed before he tried to fix it himself or the warranty would have been voided.
