Default Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Is anyone else playing it? I have it since yesterday and lovin' every second. To be honest I was worried about how they were going to optimize the engine, but so far there weren't any framerrate issues. Game looks very nice for a DS title (you can't compare the visuals to Vice City Stories from PSP). I like the isometric view which is better than top down view from GTA1 or 2. The only downside is when you're navigating near tall buildings, because it takes a second or two for the camera to find a correct position. It's very comfortable to play (lots of cool minigames utilizing the touch screen) and all the vehicles handle very well. You can for example hit a smaller car and you see it crashing or you can drift through the corners using a muscle-car. Only bikes feel weird, but it's difficult to use them anyway, especially the ultrafast superbikes. So far the missions have been interesting and most of them had "cut-scenes?. There seem to be a lot of activities in the game like in the previous GTA games. You can spend a lot of time being a coke dealer for example, buying drugs cheap and selling them to the highest bidder. Good stuff. Overall I'm very excited about the game. Looks like the best title for DS, especially if you're not into games targeted mostly for the Japanese audience.

I'm considering getting this. The PSP ones were okay but nothing that the console versions didn't already offer.

Is it comparable to the series after it went 3d in GTA 3 or is it more like the fist two or it a good blend of both?

I think it's a blend of both. It has tons of extra activities, the map is a good copy (aside from lacking one disrtict) of Liberty City from GTA 4 and yet it plays more like GTA 1 or GTA 2 thanks to the camera not showing the action from the third person perspective. I'm amazed that they've made such a playable product on such a "weak" handheld from the technical point of view.

I got it to play on the train during my commute, and I'm really liking it. Great to play in bite-size chunks. I really like the "Dope Wars" style drug running and the humorous writing.

Thanks for the reviews guys!

I've seen this and not been sure - like many wondering if it can work on a DS!
