Hi!
I am thinking of playing WoW, but I don't know what is needed.
Do I have to buy the original game plus all the expansions? Or could I just buy the expansion and start playing online??
Could someone explain this to me?
TA
I have to buy the original WoW game. But you dont have to buy the expansion. However you wont get to go places that the expansion packs offer.
Doesn't it involve a "pay per month" account as well?
I had rather have a plain, russet-coated Captain, that knows what he fights for, and loves what he knows, than that which you call a Gentleman and is nothing else.
Yeah, 14.95 a month. Plus, you have to pay for the expansions every month, too. (At least when I played you did.) I didn't find it any fun at all. I quit playing after a week or two with the Burning Crusade expansion.
All right, look, there's only one "Return," okay, and it ain't "of the King," it's "of the Jedi." - Randal Graves, Clerks 2

So would you recommend the expansions at all?
I don't recommend playing WoW at all, but if you must, then I wouldn't get the expansions until you know you like it. Get the trial for the game from Blizzard, or your local Best Buy, then try it out first.

Never played it but I wouldn't think they would charge extra to play the expansion. Check 4th down. WoW -> Info -> F.A.Q. -> General
Searched read 4th down. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade -> F.A.Q.
And from what I've seen clear your calender. Cause if you like it you will be sucked ion for hours and hours at a time.
I have played WoW for many years now, on and off. I am kinda torn about this one. It's a love and hate relationship. I keep getting sucked back in by friends that have a greater passion for it than I. If you play the trial there are some things you should know. They limit your account so you can't send 'whispers' to people and something along the lines of trading with others. Not sure exactly how that works, never played on a trial account. If you play the game for just a few days you really only get a feel for the game play. Most of the cool skills only become available after level 10. Level 10 isn't that hard to achieve in a few hours, but most of the chars are really fun between level 20 and 30. With the original game being fairly inexpensive, I would recommend buying the orginal and trying that for a month since you get a month free with the purchase. The trial account limits you and a week isn't really enough time to get a good feel for the game. There are so many mini games in the game itself that if you get bored of running missions they have other things for you to do. Crafting skills give you some gear and a way to generate money. You can PVP, fight against other players, that can be fun at times. If you like a great deal of PVP, start a char on a PVP server it opens the PVP restictions on the main maps, so once you hit around level twenty the opposing faction will be in areas with you. This makes leveling more difficult. You are vulnerable to attack will running quests, but it adds an extreme level of excitement to the game. Although it sometimes adds and aspect of frustration sometimes too. If you aren't sure it's for you, go to a normal server. Most dungeons you go to can take anywhere from an hour to eight hours to finish, unless you are with some experienced players. Some groups just fly though dungeons while others crawl their way to the end. Just be aware that if you like the game there is a great possibility of lost time, spouse, job, ect... Keep yourself tethered to the real world and don't forget to come up for air now and then. Anyways, it's a fun game just requires time to invest into it to get the really good gear, but you get better crap gear on the next expansion it seems.
In a trial or guest account you can send whispers but you cannot trade items with other players. The expansions were originally going to be one expansion pack every two years. That went pear-shaped after this first expansion (The Burning Crusade) and it took nearly 4 years to bring out the second expansion (Wrath of the Lich King). However, Blizzard are looking to be a bit more on track to getting the next expansion out by the end of 2010 (Cataclysms).
(Obviously, I play WoW)
