Best turn based city stratergy games on the PC???

Spent years playing the stratergy game Master of Magic. The graphics nowadays suck quite badly but the game play is still there. It's quality, problem is that although I found it on Best of Old games.com for nothing, running it in DOS box means as you progress through the game the turn wait times become longer and longer until it's just too time consuming to finish successfull playthroughs.

The only good similar game I've played of any worth is Heroes of Might and Magic series, the new version (Heroes V) is absolutely quality!

Can you come up with any other games of this type which even come close???

How about Age of Wonders. The second game was briliant, though you still had to wait a lot for the enemies to move.

Default My opinion

I also had a lot of fun with Master of Magic.

As far as turn based strategy city games, you have to think about the civilization series of games. However, I they aren't typically fantasy based. There is an expansion for Civ 2 called 'Fantastic Worlds' that expands on the basic 'civ' cites, and as I recall, it has fantasy based units like dragons. I still occasionally play civ2. The random world generator makes every game different.

If you don't mind science fiction rather than fantasy, Alpha Centauri by Sid Meier is allright, but I really enjoyed Master of Orion (especially MoO2). MoO is a 'planet building' game, but the concept is the same.
