New Space MMO not to be compared with Eve

I was looking around and found this game that appears to be similar to eve. Don't say that in their forums though, lol. It has full 360 freedom of movement and combat is based on twitch gameplay. You can fly with a joystick or mouse/keyboard. Graphics look incredible from the screenshots, and there are a few gameplay trailers on the website. Jumpgate Evolution. I have included a couple screenshots for your viewing pleasure. Beta is coming soon and release is scheduled for Sep of 2009. Release my get pushed back some, but they have announced Sep to most of the retailers that I have spoken with. Enjoy!

Not a big fan of Eve because it takes too much time to achieve something.

The only space MMO I'm looking forward to is Stargate Worlds.

I must admit that I did try a trial of E.V.E and although was attracted to the visuals and in need of something to bring me back to my romantic days playing Elite, this seemed a little bit inaccessible.

Now, I have the same thoughts as you regarding Jumpgate Evolution. I have been keenly watching the trailers and reading the developer interviews as I am picking up this is more about skill than luck. It was described as that some MMORGs use a "dice" system as part of the attack and defence, so sometimes you get higher hit effect than others. With Jumpgate, if you shoot at a ship and hit it, you hit it. Simple huh.

Visuals looked great so far and like you say, quite simple controls but expecting depth of play. I was hoping to see a monthly subscription of half when they were asking, as I tend to feel it does not help players who cannot get value by playing frequently. But subs is big money.

Ah yes, Elite - is it just that time fades the bad bits & just leaves you with a warm fuzzy glow, or was it so ground breakingly different that it easily stands the test of time ?
I think it's the latter, but I keep hoping something else will come along & repeat the feat - maybe Jumpgate will be it ??

Elite was my fav game ever when i was a young lad, any one remember how hard it was to dock before you could get afford a docking computer haha. Also im sure i was not the only one who when bored tried to take on all the police vipers from the starbases, i used to wait out side the base and see how many i could kill before i went down.

I also loved it when the thargoids? use to stop you in hyperspace and you had to fight hordes of them. I never did find the generation ships where they just a myth ?

By the way heres the novel that came free with the game, which really drew me in as a kid, a great little read, really sets the scene and makes you want to get out there and trade
