WWI fighter pilot role call - New promising looking game "Rise of Flight" Do you remember "Wings" on the Amiga? Am I getting too old?
"Flying Corps" anyone? Even Microsoft Combat Flight Sim? If your first games console was an Xbox360 or PS3, you are probably shaking your head and opening a new tab to wikipedia.
A new sexy-looking WW1 flight sim appears to be revving it's props ready for launch - Rise of Flight
Well I adored the WW1 flight sim games on the old machine with less power than your iPhone and it looks like there is another one about to come out for the uber-fast GFX munchers of today. I hope it lives up to what it looks like, and AEROSOFT are reputable publishers in the MS Flight Sim addons world, amongst other things. I was tipped off to Rise of Flight by a friend who has a product under this publisher. As a small publisher they don't seem to be able to reach the mass market outside the quite niche flight sim press.
Graphically it looks like it is exploiting the capabilities of today's machines.
I used to hate being in a tight turn at 5 frames a second when trying to take Baron Von-Computer1 out of the game, so to play a good dogfight at 30+FPS is a potential new experience.
What appeared to work well was the use of pilot head view, which is used in many sims I know, but not needed more than in a low speed dogfight such as WWI and WWII games. I guess you can assign it to the hat on a good flight-stick. |
