I played it and was also a bit disappointed in the game. While the story is good, the graphics are great, the battle system is inventive and free flowing it has its flaws.
First and foremost the game is great for a rent but it just doesn't have any real replay value. Secondly while the free flowing combat system is nice the camera viewpoint you are forced to work with is not conducive to this kind of system and can cause you to die just because you can't see around you and you can't turn it very fast while trying to move and fight.
The bosses on this game are also a complete joke as there are no bosses. There really are just thugs, bigger thugs, & then even more thugs and bigger thugs. All the bosses really don't really fight and have you just avoiding them and maybe hitting them 3 times when they are stuck or disoriented.
The plot holes in this games story are also hard to get past. One thing that bothers me is the lack of equipment in the beginning. Batman as a rule would go in with all the stuff he needed not have you go and find it or have to get it as he needs it. He plans ahead not on the spot. This is shown with the batclaw vs. Super Batclaw. Why would you get the single rope to start with when you should have already figured out that you need something stronger? Also when you get the zip cord he flies the whole freaking plane through a window to shoot a capsule at his feet. He couldn't have shot it through the window he had his plane fly through? Also so many bad guys are hinted at but are never shown and the entire story line with The Riddler is never touched on nor discussed. How did he escape, how did he plant all these riddles that Batman with all his gear can barely get to? Why is it that even though all the Super Criminals are returned to their cells that none of them are there when you beat the game? And my biggest issue is how does a little dart penetrate Bat's suit to infect him with Venom? It can't and wouldn't. For so much detail they really had some bad ideas or missing elements to the overall realism of it.
Also the challenges all seemed like a complete after thought and were not done well. They have way to many enemies in such a small space that the battle system begins to fail as the free flow combat rarely locks on to who you want it to and because so much goes on at once in a tight area the game tends to lag out a bit and not register moves that you try to pull off such as the Counter. These challenges are the most frustrating part of the whole game and not really because they are hard as they are not it is just because the battle system fails within it. Beating up the people isn't hard but just trying to earn the points which requires ground takedowns in order to achieve them is frustrating when you can't pounce the right guy.
Finally while the story is good and the main game is fun the fact that there is nothing to do at all after beating the game and solving the few riddles you have left at the end of the game. This seriously ruins the fact that they allow you to free roam after beating it. What is the point when there is nothing left to do. They should have enemies to fight, have the super criminals in their cells and have you able to talk to them, have random things go wrong that Batman needs to help with, or at the very least be able to start a game+ mode that allows you to keep all your upgrades. |
