James Cameron's iconic cybernetic organisms are back this summer in Terminator: Salvation. The Terminator series revolves around the idea that at some point in the future, humans create a program called Skynet that initiates an apocalypse and destroys most of humankind. A man named John Conner will then lead the survivors in the following war against Skynet and its machines. However, before and after John Conner was born, the machines sent a total of 3 cybernetic assassins, called Terminators, back in time to kill him, thus preventing him from leading the resistance. There were a total of 3 films released detailing each time a Terminator was sent back to kill Conner: The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.
The upcoming film Terminator: Salvation will take place after the apocalypse, unlike the other films, showing Conner leading the resistance against the machines. It will feature Christian Bale as John Conner and hits theaters on May 22 this year.
Now, I've been seeing rumors and all kinds of mess popping up about this film so I had to say something about it. The rumor that has stood out the most, to me, was the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be in the film, once again play the role of the T-800. It's said that they will use his voice and super-impose his head onto another actor's body.
When I first heard that Schwarzenegger would not be playing the role when the film was first announced, I was at first skeptical, but later thought it was for the best because they already had changed a lot with this film from the others. Then I saw this rumor. Now I'm not saying its a bad idea, but why go through all that trouble just to please the fans? I mean it is kinda hard to see anyone else playing the role, but still.
The next rumor I saw was that the film, unlike its predecessors which were rated R, will be rated PG-13. I don't know if this one is true either, but if it is, that's gonna suck. Because a lower rating not only means less action, but it also means a younger audience and a younger audience means little kids kicking the s*** outta my seat. So, I hope to hell this is just a rumor because the previous films had plenty of success with an R-rating.
Anyway, with or without the R-rating or the Governator, after looking at the trailers and pics from the set, I think this film looks kickass and will be a nice change considering the last installment, Rise of the Machines, wasn't that great. Needless to say Terminator Salvation is at the top of my to-see list this summer.

This movie is gonna suck in my opinion. The rumors of Arnold being it are most likely true since this covers the actual war and the largest number of robot killers are the T-800 series. Most likely he will show up in the back of the action, his face will be shown flying across the screen after being blown up, or they will show Connor die at the end of the film and pull back to show that the Govenator did it which completes the storyline set up in 3.
However the reason for this film sucking is they have set up the storyline in the previous films that John Connor is the most important man on the planet. IF anything happens to him one way or the other it will effect the outcome of the war. Well now that will change. The main storyline for this film is going to follow that the machines go back in time and snatch a random guy and bring him back to the future with them. This supposedly will cause some sort of rift in the space time continuum which all of a sudden changes humanities entire history of the war and causes them to start losing it. So Connor and the resisting fighters must try and figure out what the machines changed and find a way to send "Past Boy" back to the past. Can anyone say Back to the Future Part 2 all over again with more action.
Why I will most likely see this film since I have seen all the others this will be the worst installment of the group. They developed a crappy sounding storyline in order to have an excuse in order to get you past judgment day, which apart from the spin off show TTCC which doesn't even follow the storyline of the movies. The movies have already set up this storyline as being impossible. The movies have made a major point that you can only send people back in time not forward. TTCC set up that you could but then again it also set up a bunch of stuff happened to John between films 2 & 3 and in 3 he states at the beginning that nothing happened between that time period and they stopped judgment day. So the spin off isn't even part of the film, it is just a cool show that carries the terminator tags and earns money for the label. It also gave us something to watch during the major writers strike besides reality tv.
This movies entire selling point has been to show that it is taking place during the Great War which fans have been wanting to see. There has yet to be one trailer that even begins to tell what the storyline is because fans have already been in an uproar when the short synopsis of what it was going to be about came out. The film is rated pg-13 and the all action trailer ensures noisy middle & high schoolers will see the film.
Why do film makers think that an all action trailer is a good way to sell a film? I remember seeing the trailer for the Kingdom online which spelled out the storyline and made the film sound really interesting and very good. Then the trailer came out and all you saw was exploding SUVs. I then bought the film, watched the trailer on the DVD and then watched the film. I found out that the trailer showed more SUVs blowing up than the number of SUVs that were even in the film.
1. R-rating means nothing these days. I went to see the Happening (which I really liked) and that was R yet there was a mother with her 4 or 5 year old kid. Which is totally inappropriate, much less the kicking of the seat.
2. This movie is about the war and will have to have Arnold because he is the one that goes back in time in the first two, so John will have to send them back in time even though he knows it wasn't prevented the first time around. Because if it were prevented, then they wouldn't have to send Arnold back to stop a war that never happened.
3. I really liked all three Terminator movies they already made.
4. It seems that they are forgetting that the TV series exists and are starting where the third one left off with the war beginning. I bet the TV series will end lamely with them preventing the war and forgetting the fact that that lame ending is just impossible.
5. I'll go see this movie because I liked the first 3 so much, and I bet I'll probably like this one too.
Well according to the newest issue of Maxim magazine that interviewed Moon Bloodgood they are bringing back Linda Hamilton for an appearance and when asked about Arnold she said she couldn't answer as she was sworn to secrecy which means a definite yes on that one. If they are unable to get previous actors they usual have no problem telling people not to expect it but when people are sworn to secrecy in Hollywood it 99.9% of the time happens.
I still don't think this will be a good or convincing Terminator film but if the recent string of summer movies are any indication it definitely won't but it will be a good action film. Myself and another friend were arguing about seeing this because of the inaccurate plot they have put out for it (fan vs. non fan arguement) when another one of my friends who is impartial put it the best way: "It doesn't matter if it follows the story line as that would just make it an added bonus for fans but anytime you have AC10s blowing up robots that are trying to wipe out humanity you will have a decent action movie that won't disappoint you for a one time watch."
Yeah, I just saw it as well and I was surprised to find that the film was actually pretty good. There was a good amount of action, a decent story, and a pretty good performance from the actors. I'd recommend going to see it if you are interested in the story or if you're just in the mood for an action flick.
