I would say both. The characters are fresh, but their archetypes are obviously familiar. The story is done in a way to move the franchise forward without stepping on the toes of movie's past. Its much more action packed than previous incarnations of Star Trek. I'd say the best action movie of the summer, hands down.

It was fantastic - weather your a Star Trek fan or not.

What a way to re-launch the Star Trek franchise without simply ignoring everything that's been done before.

Hanging out for the DVD to see the bonus features and watch it when ever I want.

    Smile great movie

This is one of best movies I'vee seen this year. It remained very ture to the original with just enough differences to make it interested. I thought the casting was done very well and the dialog was excellent. They captured the repartee (not spelled correctly) between the characters wonderfully.

he movie was great in terms of action and effects. What I find a little bit confusing was the little information about what is happening - more information or talk about an alternative time line from the 'old' Spock
On another note....being an original fan...I found it particularly poignant to watch an obviously aged Leonard Nimoy raise his hand one more time and utter those famous words "Live long and prosper" for what may have well been the last time, on film

A very enjoyable and exciting science fiction movie, which takes the audience back to the adventures of the first and best (my opinion) of the USS Enterprise crew. All the actors are all very good choices to represent these familiar characters from the original 1960s series. Karl Urban as Dr McCoy is my particular favourite. Eric Bana as the villain Nero is unrecognisable; it took me awhile to see it was him in this role! Also, there is a red shirt ‘reference’. In the original series, if a landing party went to an alien’s planets surface. The crew member wearing the red jersey or uniform would be the one to be killed; this film doesn’t break from this rule!

Not being a fan of any of the Star Trek TV series I didn't know what to expect... I was pleasently surprised... Great characters... Interesting story... Not sure I'll revisit the classic series but I'm definitely looking forward to the next film.
