Sunshine

I saw the movie Sunshine for the first time this weekend. If Alfred Hitchcock had made a sci-fi movie, this would be it. It's a very dark science fiction movie, with the primary focus on human interaction in stressful scenarios. The premise is a starship taking half of the earth's processed uranium supply to jump start a dying sun. This is the second mission, as the first mission never returned and, since the sun hasn't increased to its past lumonisity, the first mission obviously failed. I wouldn't say the movie is heavy on 'modern' horror or action, but I think it does a great job of dealing with humans under pressure, both negatively and positively.

I really, really like the part where they are walking on this sunshine shield. I won't spoiler what happens there - it's so amazing. The music, the effects, the drama of this scene ... just WOW!

I'm so happy I saw that on the big screen. Bought the blu-ray but it's not fully the same experience - I just don't have such a good audio- and video-equipment at home.

Second half of the movie isn't quite brilliant but definitely a movie worth watching in a cinema or with a big tv, nice surround sound and a fat subwoofer (three things i don't own).
