Good script? You've got to be kidding me. I don't know about you but I wouldn't stay for three weeks in one place and not change one thing in my life if I was being hunted by a ghost or knew that I'm about to be possessed by a demon, even if I'd knew that there's a chance that the demon will follow me. I'd do something. Go to a church, buy holy things, call an exorcist/demonologist/medium right away, sit behind the wheel of my car and just drive. ANYTHING. And for God sakes, I would TURN ON the freakin' lights. Is it that hard to fall asleep with the lights turned on? The fact that this movie had a laughable budget can't be an explanation. I have to admit I was excited for about 20-30 minutes when they've introduced the characters and shown the footage from the first few nights, but then it got boring (they try to live their lives during the day and the thing scares them at night and so on...).
As for the endings, I've yet to see the third one, but the theatrical one was IMO a complete joke. How the hell (and what for?) could she carry a reasonable large guy up the stairs? Wh would she throw him in the camera instead of killing him downstairs? And why would she want to eat the camera if she didn't want to destroy the footage (otherwise there wouldn't be any)? This ending kinda reminded of really bad horror movies where the scriptwriters didn't have a clue how to end in an interesting way and decided to give the viewers "the final scare".
Now I'm not saying that it's a trainwreck. Actors, even though they're newbies, played very well and you would actually care about them through most of the movie. I think I can give it 5/10, max 6/10. A big disappointment after the big hype it was getting. I just hope that REC2 won't disappoint me so much, because the whole idea for a sequel seems dumb. |
