The question is: How much of this is real, and how much is all an act / character? As usual, most of the "guff" that is thrown around about celebs is pure fiction or half-truths. Given that Marilyn Manson is not even his real name, I'd say that it's all part of the character.

I Watched A 2 Hour Documentary On Him. Poeple Around Him (Band Members, Ex Band Members, Costume, Hair Stylists, Managers, The Wole Lot)Told Their Wild Srtories Of Heavy Drugs & Outlandish Orgies.. Personally I Think He's The Anti-Christ Wannabe. And Don't Get Me Wrong, I'm Not A Religious Nut Job, I'm Apathetic.
Drugs and sex are the norm these days for rockers, and his character gives him the ability to be a outlandish and outrageous as he likes. His style is to shock, which these days sells.

I rather liked that album at the time, surprisingly. He did not have a sex change, he chose to wear a body suit for this album's cover. It was speculated at the time and he came out and said no it's a suit.
