Possible Sublime reunion, featuring new frontman Since Brad Nowell, the original singer/guitarist and songwriter for Sublime passed away in 1996, Bud Gough (drums) and Eric Wilson (bass) have had their side affairs- such as The Long Beach Dub Allstars- but have never really been able to recapture that same magic that they had playing as that genre-bending trio from Long Beach. The Dub Allstars picked up a respectable cult following (consisting mostly of Sublime fans) but never got much attention otherwise. They called it quits in 2002
A few months back, rumors were going around that Sublime could be "reuniting", along with a new frontman... From Wikipedia In February 2009, rumors surfaced that the surviving members of Sublime would be reuniting for a February 28th performance at Cantino Los Tres Hobres in Nevada. The performance was confirmed on March 1, 2009, by a MySpace blog message from Gaugh's current band Del Mar; the message stated the singer and guitarist that joined Wilson and Gaugh onstage was Rome, a 20-year-old from northern California. In regards to the band's future, the message said, Sublime has no "firm tour plans or anything yet".
Although, the band seems to be getting a lot of online flack for "trying to fill Brad Nowell's shoes", most people seem to agree, Brad himself would have wanted Gough and Wilson to go on, playing Sublime's music for the people that love it. No one could ever take Nowell's place- he was the voice, and the personality of the band. Not to mention, his guitar playing was, and is just beautiful.
The band would hit the big time after recording their self titled album in February of 96. Tragically, In May of that same year, after finishing the record, Brad Nowell was dead of a heroin overdose. All together, they moved over 17 million units; most of those, long after Nowell had been lost forever. Brad played no small part in making Sublime one of the top most-selling "punk" bands of all time, and you can take that to the bank.
But you can also search the videos of the recent performance on youtube, you can see the band playing with Rome (who does a very good job) and you can watch the people in the crowd having a good time. You can see the band, having a good time... and in the end that's what matters the most.
Much love to all who still love Sublime. Stay positive, and be sure to check out the videos. Give Rome a chance to remind you of the spirit and of the attitude in this music. If you should like what you hear, why not help out? Help Create some buzz about the reunion, and maybe that same spirit can be allowed to groove for just a little while longer.
Much peace and love.
