I agree, nice suggestions
Hey fellas, I was just thinking, the point and rep system is cool because it rewards ( and punishes) members for their contributions to the forum, but what do you think about also having a "member of the day" or " member of the week", this could also boost contributions from members in the forums, the member of the week could be determined by the moderators and be based on the contributions, the reps points awarded and overall behavior within the forum of the member in question, anyway it's just a thought, let me know what you think.![]()
I don't take credit for what I post, credit should go to the author....though I do take credit for having a pretty bad ass monkey!!!
I agree, nice suggestions

Doesn't matter. I would win every time.

Would you guys still be contributing to this site (as much or at all) if there were no rep points on offer? I mean, isn't your post count and other member replies enough recognition of your contributions to this site?
And what exactly do we base the "member of the day" title on? Number of posts per day? There are several members who seem to reply to anything that moves, rather than replying only to the posts they like. This indicates quantity over quality. Number of rep points? That could work, but not everyone seems to understand the concept of the rep points (rep when you like a post, not because it's there).
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for recognising the contributors to this site. After all, without you guys, there would be no site. But personally, I believe that you are member of the day material if you are contributing to the site WITHOUT expecting anything in return. Rep points, titles, etc are purely a bonus, and should be a surprise rather than an expectation.
Question: Which is worse: Ignorance or Apathy?
Answer: I don't know, and I don't care...
The rep points don't mean anything anyway, so if you got rid of them, what would the difference be? It's not like earning more rep points gains you anything once you're a full member.
About the reps, what does the big star and the 3 green bars mean under my reps?

There seems to be a thing with new members that rep points = a higher stature in the NG community. This is not the case. Rep points are a "thank you" mechanism. And we are thinking of ways to reward members for their hard work and rep point "trading" is one idea we are thinking about.
I think the green bars are a measure of the number of posts and rep points you have. Much like the rep power number, no-one's really sure how it's worked out. As for the star, it's for peeps that have run out of green bar space. If you have a "star", yer a valued member of this site.![]()

Ok mate... here we go:
The dark green pips are followed by light green pips, which are then followed by 'golden' pips. When the limit these can display is reached, the display is prefixed by a golden Star, and started again. If your reputation is zero then the neutral grey pip is displayed.
Dark green bars are worth 150
Light green bars are worth 200
Gold stars are worth 500 reps
You'll get max of 5 of each before moving up to the next level.
Good idea too for the member of the week alphatangoromeo, something for me to think about
Cheers

What I'm thinking is this: now for new members like myself and others there is no way to compete with the likes of Morph or Xray etc. (cause you guys have a pretty big head start), but if it were possible to have some sort of public board ( kind of like the one that shows in our CP when we get rep comments) that recorded rep points ( which I still consider a brilliant idea) weekly with the members name and the amount of rep points earned that week, I think that might be cool. Obviously I know that it might not be that simple, and as Head Monkey stated maybe the rep points by itself should be enough of a motivation, I just think that from experience it might be cool. I have two examples that might maybe clearly relate what I'm talking about. For example in Myspace I don't log in to see how many friends I have ( I mean whats the point of having 200,300 0r 4000 friends If you don't know who the hell they are) I log in to see if there are any comments or messages from people I know, thats What I find fun and interesting about that page, the other would be the score boards for xbox live, I thinks its cool to see how you stack up againts other members regarding the difrent games.....anyway I wont keep rambling on...just think of the posibilities, maybe something cooler will come out of this discussion, later guys.![]()

*puts on devil's advocate hat*
So if yer idea is put into place, I can see the following situations ocurring:
- A member posts his butt off, and gets 0 rep points for their effort. (this happens regularly). Day after day they do not see their name on the "Top posters list". This member gives up contributing and goes to another site. We lose a valuable member
- A member really wants to be on the list and starts creating multiple accounts and uses them to rep their account until they are on the list.
- It's a slow day posting wise. A member gives another negative rep points. That person is now on the list displayign a negative rep point count.
Even if you swap rep points for post count, you still end up with similar problems like people spam every new post with "great" or "thanks" just to get the top of the list.
There is no easy solution when you start comparing egos and stats. Which is why I go back to my original statement. You are member of the day material if you are contributing to the site WITHOUT expecting anything in return. Rep points, titles, etc are purely a bonus, and should be a surprise rather than an expectation.
Lets be honest, "pissing" contests like this only end in people getting offended.

When you put it that way....Ok, but I had stated the it would be the moderators who could decide who the weeks member was, anyway, I do agree with many of your points you made so maybe this will take more thinking about...later!

hahahahhaah i like this statement

I / we are grateful that you are taking an interest in the site, and trying to make it even better. But from a Mods POV, it's VERY hard to introduce something that:
a) won't be ruined by fools and spammers
b) is fair to most / all members on the site
c) Is easy to run / maintain
Yer idea is a good one, and I'm sure will appear in some form or another, so stay tuned...![]()
