The Western Australian Government says an incident in which young workers at a fast food store were forced to work for free is an example of what workers will see more of under new federal industrial relations legislation.
Dominos in Myaree placed a poster in its store informing employees they would have to work an extra five minutes unpaid for every minute they were late to work.
The same would apply if any part of an employee's uniform was missing.
The Minister for Employment Protection, John Bowler, has condemned the practice and says it is proof the Commonwealth's workplace agreements system is unjust.
"This is what we feared and, you know, people said it wouldn't happen, John Howard said it wouldn't happen," he said.
"Well it is happening, young West Australians are being exploited and, you know, I think welcome to John Howard's brave new world, the world we all feared."
Dominos says the situation at the Myaree store is an isolated incident and the poster has been removed.
The company says the store manager will be counselled on proper ways to manage young staff.
Motivation to the extreme eh? At least they'll get free Pizza.
