 Ben Roethlisberger another NFL thug
An attorney for Ben Roethlisberger is denying allegations made in a civil lawsuit last week that the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback sexually assaulted a Nevada woman in July 2008.
Lawyer David Cornwell issued a statement to NBC Sports and WPXI-TV saying, “Ben Roethlisberger has never sexually assaulted anyone, especially (plaintiff) Andrea McNulty.”
According to court documents filed Friday in Washoe County, Nev., McNulty alleges Roethlisberger assaulted her at the Lake Tahoe Harrah’s casino/hotel, where she still works, when he called her to his penthouse room to fix a television. There were no records of any criminal charges filed in the incident.
The woman worked at Harrah’s at the time and says the attack happened when the Super Bowl-winning quarterback was in Tahoe playing in a celebrity golf tournament. She also alleges in the civil suit that Harrah’s officials refused to investigate her complaint and went to great lengths to cover up the incident.
In her lawsuit, McNulty also accuses others — John Koster, Guy Hyder, Mark Masters, Dave Monroe, Mike Rosenow, Debbie Neall, Bryan Casuscelli and Stacy Dingman, all current or former co-workers of McNulty — of defamation of character for “making false and inflammatory statements” in what McNulty said was an attempt to cover up the incident.
Roethlisberger faces one civil count each of assault, sexual assault and battery, false imprisonment, false pretenses, fraud and intentonal infliction of emotional distress in the lawsuit.
Roethlisberger’s lawyer David Cornwell denies the claim and says the quarterback will be “fully exonerated.”
The lawsuit seeks at least $390,000 in damages. It says she has been in and out of hospitals for treatment of depression since the episode.  |
