Report: Pennington out for the year

Uh-oh.

A bad start to the season in South Florida has just gotten a lot worse.

Quarterback Chad Pennington is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com.

Per Mortensen, Pennington will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.

In Pennington's absence, the job will fall to Chad Henne, one of the many second-round picks that the Dolphins have devoted to the position since the retirement of Dan Marino.

It also raises the question of whether the Dolphins will pursue a veteran to back up Henne, since the only other quarterback on the roster is rookie Pat White, the product of yet another of the team's post-Marino second-round picks.

Maybe Bill Parcells can lure Drew Bledsoe out of retirement. Or Vinny Testaverde. Or Phil Simms.

I'm amazed that Henne actually came in and the Dolphins kept rolling against the jets last week.
