AVG Free Anti-virus 7.1 discontiued 15th January 2007

OK Guys, I've been using AVG Free for the past 12 months and it's worked very well.

However AVG are discontinuing the free version of their product from early next year so I'm looking for an alternative.

Any suggestions for a good solid Free Virus protection product?

But if you wanted to change, I've heard good things about avgast anti virus.

Bollocks, didn't see that mate, AVG need to be careful that they don't inadvertently scare away their (drunk) customers

Will also look at avgast anti virus to, ta for the link mate

You read it on a site or see the popup warning you?

For those wondering the new version 7.5 will still run on 98se.

I'd hold off for a while let others test it out first.

I've been running it on XP for bout 3 weeks. All seems OK.

hmmm there is a port of the CLAMAV antivirus for linux for windows.

not only this AV if free but it is GPL !!! crazy no ?

Got the 7.5 version the other day and running it with XP on one 'puter so far, no probs yet and I like the new look, even though I could care less aboout what it looks like so long as it works!
A friend of mine has been trying to tell me that AVG Free sucks, and while I gotta say I have read some questionable reviews of AVG Free, I have yet to have any problems with the program or it's ability to keep my system clean. The main concern in most reviews is AVG's lack of updates (I get one almost every day or at least 2 times a week lately, so maybe they were old reviews). The second was that if it found an infected file it would show it and stop searching the rest of the file (Not a big deal to me cuz IF I find something I'm still gonna run another scan after fixing it to make shure I got it! Duh?!)
Just my 2cents worth.
