Default Firefox on Ubuntu 8.04

I run Ubuntu at work on a dual boot set-up, I'm running Firefox 3.0(1) and I've had nothing but trouble from this browser. When I stumble a page that utilizes Flash, it shuts down, straight away. When I re-open--> restore session, the flash will play. If I go to a site that is graphically heavy and scroll with my mouse wheel, it just gets really laggy and the open window goes dark until it's done scrolling....
Anybody ever ran into this type of problem before?
I'm open to suggestions.
I really am starting to like Ubuntu, and ♥ FF (on XP) and this problem is starting to spoil the excitement of learning a new OS.

Firefox 3 is still relatively new, so there might still be a few bugs around. The usual apply updates is a good place to start.

Also, are you using the Abode version of Flash, or the cloned GPL version?

What version of ubuntu are you running? I was running Hardy 8.04 with FF 3b for a while with minimal problems.

I'm on 8.04 Hardy and have FF3 as well.....configuration is pretty much "Stock"
I'm using the Adobe Flash with FF. Thanks for the help, I'll try a few things. I might just roll back to FF2.

What video driver are you using? If it's set to "vesa", then anything graphic intensive will bring it to it's knees.

You could also try the GPL version of Flash to see if that helps. I'll dig up a link.

EDIT: mozilla-plugin-gnash (NOTE: this is for 7.x. I haven't tested it on Hardy. As always, install at yer own risk)

Firefox sent me the latest version. It said flashplayer & PDF not compatible with the latest version of firefox and will cause your browser to crash, would you like us to delete the program? Firefox will search for compatible flashplayer.

You seem to have found the cause of the problem but I thought it might be helpful to add that I am also running Fire Fox 3.01 on xp and it also crashes when viewing flash. My only suggestion is you rollback to 2.5.
