Default AVG incorrectly detects Zonealarm as trojan

    FYI

I just did an update on AVG anti-virus, and when I restarted my computer, it detected Zone Alarm as a trojan virus. Needless to say, it broke my PC badly, and I had to uninstall both AVG and Zone Alarm to get it working again.

Still trying to find more info on this, but more than likely AVG will fix the latest update.

To put it bluntly AVG has gone to shit. It detects the bad things AFTER they are already there and says lots of safe things are trojans. After one upday it was complaing about my proible Acrobat Reader. And to top it off it scans even slow as molasses in the middle of January. Wish I wasn't so lazy I'd try a different antivirus. Too bad too I've been using AVG for over 5 years.

    Totally agree!

They have been going downhill ever since they started bundling the "internet suite" (e.g. anti-spyware / firewall / coffee maker).

The only other free free programs that I know of are ClamAV and AVGast anti-virus. ClamAV doesn't have a resident scanner, and AVGast wants you to register every year to use the program.

So close to going back to linux after this... Come to think of it, what's stopping me???

Well they seem to have pushed out an update to this problem.

    Crisus over.

I used to use AVG also, but now have switched to Avira AntiVir Personal Free. Never had any problems with it.

I use Avast free home edition and have for years. Always been excellent.

I've had good luck with Avast! for a couple years now. Much smoother than AVG.

Both those programs suck... I'm currently using Antivir which is awesome (apart from the one a day pop up ad).

I've been using Avira for about a year or so and have had no problems with it either. There is, however, an annoying nag screen in the free version, but it can be dealt with by removing the Read & Execute rights for a file named avnotify.exe.
