The pass was contested in the air, but ultimately, quality television came down with the ball and we all came out winners. NBC and DirecTV have finally resolved the fate of Friday Night Lights, granting the show a renewal of not one, but two seasons, says Variety.
As is the case at the end of each season of the show, Friday Night Lights' future was very much in jeopardy. The show's second season was seen as somewhat of a miracle renewal, and the third season pickup (with help from DirecTV) was almost as improbable as the infamous Immaculate Reception.
Under the new deal, DirecTV will once again get first-air rights to the next two seasons, with NBC re-running the seasons after the show concludes on DirecTV. Each season is slated for 13 episodes apiece.
With two more seasons to go, producers of Friday Night Lights have a lot to discuss. Many storylines this year involved characters trying to move on to college--how many of them will stick around for a fourth season and how many will be sent off for good, as was done with Smash Williams and Jason Street this season? |
