JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is skipping the team's voluntary orientation for veterans in what could be a contract dispute.
Jones-Drew is one of two players under contract not on hand for the three-day session, which began Tuesday. Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton (eye surgery) also is sitting home.
Jones-Drew led the NFL in rushing last season, gaining 1,606 yards for the league's worst offense. The All-Pro back has two years remaining on a five-year deal worth $31 million that he signed in 2009. The deal included $17.5 million guaranteed.
New coach Mike Mularkey says he had an idea Jones-Drew would not attend the minicamp because he skipped the last two weeks of offseason conditioning, but adds that he's unaware whether Jones-Drew's absence is contract related.
