Congress decides maybe pizza isn't a vegetable after all

The world laughed at us last fall when Congress declared pizza was a vegetable, but soon the snack might return to the "Amazingly Delicious Junk Food" list where it belongs. The SLICE Act -- that's School Lunch Improvements for Children's Education -- has been introduced to ensure pizza will no longer count as a vegetable in the federal school lunch program just because it's slathered with tomato paste. Luckily for lovers of greasy, cheesy pizza, it won't be banished altogether. "Pizza certainly has its place in school meals, but equating it with broccoli, carrots and celery seriously undermines this nation's efforts to support children's health," said the bill's chief sponsor, Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO).

...and we ask ourselves what's wrong with our government???

How critical is it, in the bigger scheme of things, that our legislative branch feels the need to debate and legislate school lunches???

I just post what looks interesting as I'm wandering around the 'net. Credit always to the original scanner(s), capper(s), and or poster(s) of the content that I might put up here

The USDA was told by Reagan to start doing it. The 1st thing was to classify ketchup as a vegetable. I'm sure after all these years there were lots of stupid "classifications".

Why not regulate what kids eat in school obese kids drive up my health insurance.

I personally don't think the government (from either side of the aisle) should be injecting itself into our daily lives. It's a parent's job to regulate what his children eat and to insure that they eat well and healthily (is that a word? ).

I came through grade school back in the 60's and early 70's and what we ate was 100 times better in taste, and quality, than what these kids get today, and about 99 times less regulated by the 'government'...and we definitely did NOT grow into a generation of 'fatties'

We had parents who ...God forbid...actually parented!!!
