    Default Forum Software updated

    Hi Guys

Due to a Security issue in the current version of Vbulletin; I had to take the forums offline tonight to enable us to upgrade our forum software to the latest release.

To be honest I would have preferred to:

    1. Give you a bit more notice and
    2. Test the upgrade before going live with it.

Having said that, it's done now so if you notice any problems then please let me know by replying to this post.

On the flip side, the update should also fixes over 200 bugs which were identified with 4.01 so hopefully this should improve some of the little bugs we were experiencing to

    Cheers all

    Chief

Good to know. Gonna try with the caps later today. As for other stuff, search engine still has problems finding some of the older threads.

    Seems good to me

I just post what looks interesting as I'm wandering around the 'net. Credit always to the original scanner(s), capper(s), and or poster(s) of the content that I might put up here

Sorry to double post...just wanted to say that this latest upgrade has completely "fixed" the glitches I was experiencing with the upload tool (ie. the ones that we thought were related to browser version I was using). the upload tool is now back to looking like it's supposed to, and performance is excellent

    Thanks Chief!

I have noticed that every time I post around 80 or so attachments I start getting a script has stopped working message that seems to mess with the attachment uploading. Once it starts the system slows down to the point that it nearly lags my browser out. I have never pushed it beyond 10 extra attachments once this happens so I don't know for sure if the effects get worse or not but on the old system I never encountered that even when making a 500+ attachment post.

Well, from what you're saying the problem wasn't fixed, because exact same things were happening on my computer (~60 attachments or more). On Firefox I got an error message about a faulty script and on Opera it just started to work reaaaly slow and take a lot of CPU power.

I didn't have a chance to test the new software today but I'll probably try tomorrow.

I'm sorry to say, but it seems from my end that search has gotten even worse

I searched "Ellen Page" and received the results you see below:

I was having the same problem yesterday. The search function needs to be able to narrow down the search parameters more easily. (if that makes any sense... I'm no software genius)
But you should be able to put in a first and last name and come up only with results that had both (not either) in the posts.

    Just my 2 cents...

OK, I can say for sure that the attachment problem HASN'T been resolved (my detailed explanation of what's happening is somewhere in one of the forum software threads). A partial solution is to split posts with a lot of attachments so that each post would have ~60 of them (I've already been doing this in my Chuck threads)... but it would be better to resolve this permanently.

I also think that maybe even a bigger concern is the search engine... I'm having some serious problems finding certain threads, even with google.
