Details are still sketchy on what exactly happened, but Carolina Panthers linebacker Jon Beason was arrested Monday on assault charges stemming from what sounds like a fight at a strip club.
The charges pertain to the night of November 15, when Beason was involved in some sort of scuffle with accuser Gregory Frye at the Uptown Cabaret. Beason was immediately released on Monday on a written note to appear in court, so it sounds like things weren't too serious. Beason's agent was silent on the matter, but Panthers General Manager Marty Hurney issued a statement.
"We were aware of the police department looking into the incident and have addressed it with Jon. At this time there appear to be two different versions of what happened." he said.
Beason's lawyer, George Laughrun, said his client planned to plead not guilty. "Jon is adamant that he had nothing to do with the assault and he will plead non-guilty," Laughrun said. "He looks forward to his day in court and to getting his good name cleared."
