Default Chris Henry dies after domestic incident

Chris Henry is on life support
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 16, 2009 7:07 PM ET
Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer has confirmed with the Bengals and Charlotte police that wide receiver Chris Henry is still alive following a serious car accident Wednesday.

Still, the news surrounding Henry is not good.

Alex Marvez of Fox has reported that Henry is on life support and the situation is being described as "dire."

A fake Twitter account led to multiple outlets from newspapers to major sports and news blogs to repeat the information that Henry passed away.

The fake account purported to be by a NFL reporter, but it clearly is a fake.

We previously passed along reports that Henry's injuries were "life-threatening" and came after a "domestic situation."

Henry has "life-threatening" injuries after "domestic situation"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 16, 2009 6:25 PM ET
New information is rapidly coming out about Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry's serious car accident.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Henry is facing "life-threatening" injuries after falling out the back of a pickup truck in Charlotte Wednesday.

Police say Henry was involved in a "domestic situation" with his fiance. As Henry's fiance drove away from the home where the situation occurred, Henry jumped into the bed of the truck.

He fell out the back of the truck at some point after that and was found half a mile away.

We'll continue to update Henry's story as we learn more about his condition.

    Chris Henry passes away
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 17, 2009 10:19 AM ET
Charlotte police have confirmed that Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry died Thursday morning at 6:26 A.M.

Henry suffered injuries after he "came out" the back of a pickup truck following a domestic situation. Henry was found roughly half a mile from the house where the dispute is believed to have started.

    Henry was 26 years old.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis is expected to speak to the media at 11 A.M. ET.

On Wednesday night, while the Bengals were praying for Henry's health, they reflected on his path.

"He's a big part of what we are," guard Andrew Whitworth said to the team's website. "I really admire how he carries himself, how he's changed his life, and how he's made his career his passion. That's what this team has done. He's one of the guys that has helped give this team that attitude. We're worried about him and praying for him."

The Bengals sent their director of security Rusty Guy to Charlotte to assist the Henry family. Guy was known as a big supporter of Henry and a reason the Bengals kept him in the franchise.

"A lot of teams would have just thrown him away," former teammate Willie Anderson said Wednesday night. "You can say a lot about the Bengals, positive and negative. But you have to commend what Mike Brown and the Bengals did for this kid. They believed in him and it turned out that's what he needed."

Henry was scheduled to be married in March.

    Wow.
And their defensive coordinator's wife died a couple months ago too.
What a very sad year for the bengals.
